Currently in NSW, waste assessment, classification and management is governed by the EPA "Environmental Guidelines: Assessment, Classification & Management of Liquid & Non-Liquid Wastes"-1999. The guidelines provide categories for various waste streams, including contaminated soils and water, and associated assessment and management requirements. The guidelines also refer to the requirements of the Waste Minimisation and Management Act 1995 and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997. Various waste streams containing contaminants classified as Scheduled Chemical Waste, are also controlled by the Scheduled Chemical Waste Control Order 1994. Other Control Orders are also in force. In addition to the Acts, Regulations and guidelines that must be followed, there are numerous facilities, which provide disposal, transport and/or storage services. Negotiating price and liabilities becomes an essential part of the waste removal / disposal / storage process. Environmental Investigations provide consulting services for the management of waste including storage, transportation, disposal and cleanup. In complying with the Regulations and Acts, hefty fines to the client are avoided. Geotechnique are also able to negotiate reasonable costs for the client through our many contacts in the removal/disposal/storage area. |
